Whatever students’ dreams, one factor proves to be an obstacle for many: how they will pay for their college education, from tuition to books to the cost of living. When facing this obstacle, many new students may find themselves approaching what feels like a logical next step toward their future with some apprehension.
One of the most meaningful gifts a person can make is the gift of scholarships, paving the way for future generations to pursue college degrees. The thought of graduating with significant debt in student loans can be discouraging and overwhelming to many students. Scholarships assist the broadest range of deserving students and give them the essential keys to developing a career and earning a good living. About 80% of Ole Miss students receive some type of financial aid, including scholarships. For many, scholarships lift up entire families, creating a generational ripple effect that yields dramatic benefits in communities and the world.
Gifts of any amount can help the University of Mississippi provide access to quality education for students from all backgrounds. A minimum gift of $50,000 is needed to create a permanent scholarship endowment.
By becoming a scholarship donor, you would determine the name of the fund and establish the eligibility criteria, such as:
- Merit-based, need-based, or both
- Geographic area served (example: Mississippi or Texas students)
- Designated for a particular major (example: accountancy, journalism, music, etc.)
- Student classification (example: undergraduate or graduate students)
- Student involvement in specific activities (such as leadership development, community service, etc.)
With more jobs listing a bachelor’s degree among their requirements, everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue one’s educational goals, and we are here to assist families through the financial aid process. Ole Miss’ Office of Financial Aid will carefully review each student’s eligibility for merit and need-based aid awards and put together a tailored package of scholarships, grants, loans and Work-Study.
Creating a scholarship can be transformational for Ole Miss students and their families.
