Endless possibilities are evident through the School of Applied Sciences’ plans to develop the Innovation Kitchen to bolster experiential learning opportunities for Ole Miss students at the South Oxford Center.
The Big Picture: A world-class kitchen and dining complex will be created by renovating space in the former Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi building and bringing unmatched, career-building experiences to nutrition and hospitality management majors. A campaign is underway to engage donors at all levels.
Why It Matters:
• Plans call for a new academic minor in the culinary sciences.
• Dining options will be created that serve the entire community, and cooking classes and other special events will be offered.
• Plans for a curbside kitchen and meal prep station will assist local food truck operators.
• Budding culinary professionals will run a “grab-and-go” café offering pastries, sandwiches and coffee.
• When the Willie Price Lab School of the School of Education relocates here, Ole Miss students will gain experience providing nutritional services.
• Collaborations with Ole Miss Athletics will provide services on sports nutrition carrying experiential learning opportunities for students and research opportunities for faculty.
• A casual dining patio will be available for special outdoor events.
