To honor the life and 40-year career of the late Guy Moore of Pascagoula, Mississippi, the Deloitte Foundation has renamed an endowment it established in 2022 with a $1.5 million gift to the Patterson School of Accountancy at the University of Mississippi.

Following Moore’s death in September 2023, the organization changed the name of its endowment to the Deloitte Foundation – Guy Moore Chair of Accountancy Endowment.

“Guy would be honored and extremely humbled by the Deloitte Chair being named in his honor,” his wife Lucy Moore said. “Much like the Patterson School of Accountancy, Deloitte offered him and our family many blessings that we and our sons, Christian and Scott, never imagined.

“With Deloitte continuing to bless him and our family with such an honor, especially one that is centered around his mission to help make the Patterson School one of the best accountancy schools in the country, it offers both the school and our family a way to remember his contributions and continue his mission.”

Shortly before his sudden death, the UM accountancy graduate made a $300,000 gift to the Patterson School of Accountancy Building Fund. The school will pay tribute to his gift by naming a 90-person lecture room in his honor.

“The University of Mississippi and especially the School of Accountancy, including the professors, made a profound impact on his life, both personally and professionally,” she said. “He learned lessons during his time there that he carried and applied throughout his career, and he continued to apply and share long after his retirement from Deloitte.”

Moore retired from Deloitte LLP and Deloitte & Touche LLP in 2012 after 40 years, including 30 as an active partner. He worked in numerous Deloitte locations, including New Orleans, Louisiana; Atlanta, Georgia; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and the company’s national headquarters in Connecticut.

“We are deeply grateful to Guy and Lucy Moore for their longtime commitment to and generous support of the Patterson School,” said Dean Mark Wilder. “Guy enjoyed an exceptional 40-year career with Deloitte and was a wonderful ambassador for both Ole Miss and Patterson. His legacy, along with that of Lucy, will live on through many future generations of Patterson School students and professors that will benefit from scholarships, faculty support and the classroom in our new building that will bear the Moore name.  We are very proud to have Guy as an alumnus and also as a member of the Patterson School Hall of Fame.”

The donor’s gift will help fund construction of the planned four-story facility at the corner of University Avenue and Grove Loop. Estimated to cost over $100 million, the new building will feature tiered auditoriums and classrooms, study areas, conference rooms, administrative and faculty office suites, and outdoor balconies and terraces.

While the school’s students now attend accountancy classes all over campus, the new building will provide the space needed to bring all classes under one roof.

“Guy always believed that having not only the right people, but the best people teaching and guiding the next generation of accountancy students was paramount to their professional and personal success,” his wife said. “His gifts were always meant as a way to help support that mission to attract and secure the best leaders in the accountancy field and help make the Patterson School one of the best accountancy schools in the country.”

Guy Moore was named to the Patterson School of Accountancy Hall of Fame in 2013. While at Ole Miss, he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa honor society and the Beta Alpha Psi accountancy fraternity.

A previous gift from the couple established an endowment that provides tuition support for students transferring from community college into the Patterson School of Accountancy.

Lucy Moore said, “Guy believed supporting the Patterson School was his way to give back to the school that gave him and our family so many blessings.”
