Elevating Health Care for All
The University of Mississippi has a steadfast commitment — as well as an urgent sense of purpose – to elevate health care services and scientific discoveries that assure the health and well-being of society. Our School of Pharmacy boasts research collaborations on every inhabitable continent on the planet. From a clinical trial of a new cannabis-derived drug to treat seizures in children, to a $10.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to establish a center to study how carbohydrates and carbohydrate-containing molecules affect human health, the School of Pharmacy is a force in both developing pharmacy professionals and treatments to help humankind.
At the University of Mississippi Medical Center, researchers are leading the search to crack the code of Alzheimer’s disease through the MIND (Memory Impairment and Neurodegenerative Dementia) Center, including increased funding for its research and clinical trials. In addition, our ability to treat pediatric patients and help them live strong, healthy lives, draws on our expertise, technology, research and compassion through our Children’s Hospital of Mississippi, the Eli Manning Children’s Clinic, the Center for Advancement of Youth and much more.

Strengthening Expertise Around Cyber Security
The University’s impact is not just felt on land. Our Center for Air and Space Law pursues groundbreaking work on the legal aspects of applying remote-sensing, air and space technologies to human activities, protecting our future as we explore new worlds. In fact, our School of Law is a world leader in air and space law education, research and public service. We strive to educate a generation of lawyers prepared to address the complex demands of a space economy.
The University’s Center for Intelligence and Security Studies offers a new global security studies minor, as it seeks to educate the future national security, cybersecurity and intelligence workforce. A majority of CISS students go directly into the intelligence community or U.S. government after graduation, while others secure employment with think tanks, non-government organizations and leading private sector entities. The national security sector seeks applicants from an increasingly diverse set of backgrounds, reflecting the broad range of threats to U.S. interests.

Developing the Next Generation of Leaders
Wait for graduate school? No, the University of Mississippi enables undergraduates to engage in research and creativity with renowned faculty in their chosen fields of interest — an offering that draws in high-performing students to choose Ole Miss as their college home. Undergraduate researchers develop written and oral communications skills, critical thinking, technical skills and information literacy. We’ve nurtured undergraduates who pursued significant research in autism, mass spectrometers and lasers in the Hammer Research Group, prescription stimulants for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, mental health of young adults, electrical engineering in the aerospace field and much more.
By being allowed to pursue research early in their college careers, students can build a beneficial learning community with faculty members and fellow students. Through these experiences, undergraduates can solidify their choice of an academic major, better understand career potential and form post-graduation plans.
The University of Mississippi has built strong research collaborations with dozens of other universities, industries and government agencies around the country. These partnerships are crucial to making progress on challenging problems and elevate the work Ole Miss researchers and student researchers pursue.
